Suds and Bugs
Lobster poutine, in all its delicious glory, is definitely a dish that is on the saltier side. Thankfully there is a sudsy elixir, perfect for remedying a parched palate: beer.
In this article, we have graciously compiled a short list of what we believe are the best beers on earth to pair with lobster poutine.
- Foundation Brewery – Epiphany
Citrusy and vivid, this cloudy IPA pairs perfectly with lobster poutine drizzled with a paprika aioli.
- Brasserie Dunham – Sirkawa
Brasserie Dunham, one of Montreal’s best new breweries, makes Sirkawa, their decadent, Russian Imperial Stout with coffee beans from either Columbia or Costa Rica. The beer pours a dark maple-black, with rich coffee colored foam. Sirkawa is perfect with a rich, meaty gravy, but be warned: At 9.5% ABV, it’s on the boozier side.
- La Barberie – IPA New England
More alchemists than brewers, the team at La Barberie concocts some of North America’s most well-rounded and tasty beers. Their IPA New England uses fruity, Vermont hops, which perfectly compliment the malty nature of the beer, creating a finish that is impeccably well-balanced. The subtle notes of coniferous forest really accentuate some of the more nuanced aspects of the frites in poutine.
- Prairie Artisan Ales – Prairie Vous Francais
Straight out of Oklahoma, Prairie Artisan Ales provides us with some truly remarkable farmhouse-style ales. This table beer is dry and crisp, with a low ABV, making it the perfect companion for a hearty plate of Lobster poutine.
- Brouwerij de Molen – Hel & Verdoemenis
Brewing from inside a windmill in the Netherlands, Brouwerij de Molen has never taken any short cuts on their journey to creating great beer. Every beer in their arsenal is remarkable, but Hel & Verdoemenis is the perfect drink to pair with lobster poutine. This full-bodied stout is so thick and hearty with notes of chocolate and caramel it might as well be a type of gravy. Do yourself a favor a pour a little on top of your poutine. You won’t regret it.
